What is a Yurt?
Yurts are a round structure with a cone shaped roof and usually made from wood slats. The Mongolians of Northern China have been living in them for over 5,000 years and they are built to withstand the extreme weather environments of the Steppes of China
What are Yurtastic Yurts made of?
Yurtastic Yurt frames are made from high quality 9-layer birch plywood. Frames include 2 wall sections, roof ring and rafters, door and doorframe. The cover is made from recycled high density vinyl billboards, covers can be made from new materials at an extra cost.
Are they waterproof?
Yes and no. The covers are made from recycled billboard material. After the cover is cut and sewn it needs to be sealed. This can be done with a tent seam seal or paint. Suggested paint is Zinsser Bulls-Eye 1-2-3 Plus, which can be tinted any color. Covers made from new materials need the seams sealed too.
What are Yurts used for?
Yurts can be used for camping, art or yoga studio, workshop, emergency shelter and home.
What size Yurts do you offer?
Currently we offer 4 sizes. 12", 14", 16" and 20" diameter.
How many people will fit into a 12-foot Yurt?
It depends on what you are doing. If sitting on the floor, you could have 6-8 people comfortably. Sleeping, 4-6 people. As you go up in size you can add maybe 2-4 to each size.
How long does it take to setup a Yurt?
It takes one person about 1.5 hours to setup a 12" Yurt. It's faster and more fun with two people setting it up. The 14" and 16" Yurts setup in about the same time, but it is recommended that you have a 4"-6" ladder.
